3 Ways To Keep Your Family Active In The Neighbourhood

Trying to keep in shape while living out in the suburbs can be a little bit of a headache and hassle for a couple of different reasons.

Thankfully, there are a couple of different things you’re going to be able to do to effortlessly get your family back into shipshape and leading an active lifestyle, all without ever having to leave the suburbs!

1. Take the family for walks when the weather is nice

There is nothing quite like taking a stroll with the entire family (and any furry little family members that can tag along) when the sun is shining and the weather is nice. If you’ve been looking for ways to get your family back into the swing of things activity wise, nothing jump starts the journey quite like low-impact walks around the neighbourhood.

A bonus is that you get to know your neighbours a lot better!

2. Head down to the rec center and visit the pool

You’d be hard-pressed to find a better workout than swimming for 30 minutes or so every day (or at least a couple of days a week). This is the kind of full body, low-impact workout that helps to burn fat and build muscle – and it’s the best way to cool off when the weather gets a really warm!

Some communities have indoor pools as well as outdoor pools, giving families the opportunity to stay in shape all year round.

3. Find the best bike trails in the area

Though you could certainly purchase bikes and cruise them all over around the neighborhood (getting in a fantastic workout along the way), if you are really looking to take things to the next level, you’ll want to think about getting your hands on the home bikes for the whole family and taking things off road.

Most suburbs have wooded areas that are filled with hiking and mountain biking trails, and these activities can not only help to improve the overall fitness of family members, but also teach them about nature, get them out from in front of electronic devices, and help everyone come together more closely.
